Melissa J. Hunckler, age 57, of Huntington, died Monday morning (December 10, 2012), at her residence. A gathering of friends and family will be held from 2 – 5 p.m. Saturday (December 15, 2012) at Melissa and Francis’s residence, 7140 W – 900 N, Huntington, Indiana. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Cancer Services of Huntington County in care of Bailey-Love Mortuary, 35 West Park Drive, Huntington, Indiana. Melissa was born July 26, 1955, in Saginaw, Michigan, to William J. and Jean (Dafoe) Petrie. She graduated from St. Rita School for the Deaf and then attended Gallaudet University. Melissa retired in 2009 from the Huntington Post Office after working as a clerk for over twenty years. She was a Member of the Northeastern Indiana Deaf Awareness Council and also of the SS. Peter & Paul Catholic Church of Huntington. Melissa is survived by her husband – Francis J. Hunckler of Huntington; her father – William J. Petrie of Cincinnati, Ohio; three children – Sunni Hart of Harrison, Tennessee, Samson Hunckler of Indianapolis and Jason Hunckler of Fishers; four grandchildren – Callie Hart of Harrison, Tennessee, Colson and Cayden Hunckler of Indianapolis and Daniel Hunckler of Fishers; four brothers – Toby Petrie of Dayton, Ohio, Paul Petrie, Terry Petrie, and Pat Petrie all of Cincinnati, Ohio; three sisters – Debbie Cappel , Mary Kay Studer and Becky Schoemer all of Cincinnati, Ohio. Her mother Jean Petrie; two brothers – Billy Petrie and Tim Petrie preceded her death.
